The Diary of Miss Elizabeth Dane: Ascension

The diary of Miss Elizabeth Dane is a view on Guild Wars through the eyes of a character. With the help of the heroes of her time, she embarks on adventure that makes her stronger and wiser.

Dear diary,

I've done something I could never have imagined when I started this journey. As of now, I am an ascended human. Even though I don't feel any different, it still feels like a big achievement.

To get here, I did 3 trials in Dunes of Despair, Thirsty River and Elona Reach. Ironicly, they really didn't challenge me all that much, but it certainly wasn't easy. Following the trials, Augury Rock opened up, presenting me the next challenge. In this challenge, I had to face myself...literally. I met the Doppelganger, who had the exact same skills in necromancy as me. Unforunaly for it, I was victorious.

I was teleported to the Dragon's Lair, where I could gain an audience with the dragon Glint. In order to do that, I had to "Defeat the six facets of the great dragon prophet", as one of the Forgotten told me. I went and did exactly that, meeting Glint. And she gave me a lot of information.

By ascending, I unlocked the gift of True Sight. This allows me to see the White Mantle's Unseen Gods, who according to Glint are no gods, but spellcasters called the Mursaat. They killed the Chosen to prevent the Prophecy, which tells the Mursaat will meet their end by a Chosen One. But I was more concearned of the Shining Blade who were captured. Glint offered me a trip to the Shiverpeak Mountains, which saves me a big trip.

And it's here I'm writing now, in Droknar's Forge, amongst the Brotherhood of the Dragon.
After a good rest, I'm off to give the White Mantle what they deserve.

Until next time!

Guild Wars Build of the Week: Judging With Ray

It's time for Build of the Week ! And this week we got a build given to me by Ray Will Doo, so thanks are in order here. This week it's a monk/mesmer build using one of the monk favorites, Ray of Judgement. Because it's Ray's build, I'm giving it an appropriate name:

Judging With Ray

Skills from 1-8
Attributes: Divine Favor 12, Smiting Prayers 12 & Protection Prayers 3

Template code: OwUT443AZytynJHcJQuUmg6zlAA
(Not sure how to use this? Click here!)

So this build is a bit of a "jack of all trades" build. Main damage comes from Ray of Judgement, and Smite Contition and Smite Hex also deal damage, while serving as condition/hex removal primarely. Judge's Intervention is saveguard should someone almost die (and punishing those who try in the process). Seed of Life does the healing part, and Rebirth the ressurecting part. Pain Inverter is a great counter for big damage, I can easily recommend it in many builds.
And finally, Arcane Echo. In this build, it's not used to copy a certain skill for max effectiveness, but rather as a "copy what you need extra now" skill. And it works great because the build has al kind of goodies to copy. In my opinion, this is the more interessting way to use the skill.

So go and try this all around support build out, it's a great build where you get to react to the battlefield, and not just go down the skillbar in a certain order. If anyone improves this build or has a good idea, let me know in the comment section.

Until next time!

The Diary of Miss Elizabeth Dane: Beginnings

The diary of Miss Elizabeth Dane is a view on Guild Wars from the eyes of a character. With the help of the heroes of her time, she embarks on adventure that makes her stronger and wiser.

Dear diary,

Since I'm starting to write today, I suppose an introduction is in order.
Elizabeth Dane is the name, though friends call me Miss.
Born as Krytan, moved to Ascalon at a young age. Which was likely the most stupid thing to do, since I had the pleasure of seeing the Searing in action. Early on I noticed the power of past souls around me, which I later learned to be the source of power for Necromancy. That got me into a quest for knowledge, which led me to the title of Necromancer.

After The Searing, I helped Ascalon in any way I could. Then the Charr broke through the Great Northern Wall. Some wanted to defend what remained, others wanted to evacuate to Kryta. The great Prince Rurik led the refugees to Kryta, while his father King Adelbern stayed to defend Ascalon.
I followed Prince Rurik to Borlis Pass, where we helped refugees get to Kryta. And we did succeed, but it has costed Rurik his live. Arriving in Kryta, we realised we ran from one conflict to the next.

At first we got the chance to join a group called the White Mantle, and to witness one of their rituals, the Test of the Chosen. Then I met the Shining Blade, taking the chosen with them by force. We followed them, only to learn that the White Mantle kill the chosen for their heathen gods, the Unseen Ones. We stopped them, and moved on the the Hedge of Denravi. We enlisted the help of Vizier Khilbron, a powerful mage from Orr who advised the king of Orr. He wanted an artifact in return for his help, the Scepter of Orr, which was in hands on the White Mantle. Upon recovering the artifact, the Vizier informed us that Markis of the Shining Blade had betrayed us, and was in league with the White Mantle all this time. We got ambushed, the Shining Blade got scattered and we had to flee to the Crystal Desert.

And this is the story so far. I arrived in the Crystal Desert and traveled to a place called Augury Rock, where ghostly heroes told me about the trials to ascension.
I believe this is what I need to do in order to gain the power to help the Shining Blade.

And on a side note, while he helped us a lot, I think Khilbron has an agenda of his own.

There we go, the first piece of the Diary of Miss Elizabeth Dane. You can find her in game if you wish to join her journey, it could even get you mentioned in her diary.

Until next time!

Guild Wars Build of the Week: Norndred Blades

Welcome to the first build of the week ! From today on, I will post a build each week and discuss it. These builds will vary from effective builds to general fun builds. So lets get going on the first one, which is for the warrior.

Norndred Blades

Skills from 1-8
Attributes: Strength 12 & Swordsmanship 12

Template code: OQATEZKXHqvQmUowmcqhvywamEA
(Not sure how to use this? Click here!)

This build is a variation on a classic Hundred Blades build, with some nice Norn pve skills in it, hence the name. Using it is a breeze, because most skills are straightforward.

First use "I am the Strongest!". This skill will stay on you until you get an x amount of hits, so it can be used far in advance. When engaging, use Enraging Charge to get some adrenaline. Then, whenever "Dodge This!" is ready, use it. And for the rest, it's standard damage dealing. Power Attack is used for additional damage, as is Sun and Moon Slash. Use Hundred Blades when you see fit, preferably together with Flail for more extra hits. And "You Move like a Dwarf!" is your long range interrupt scream from hell :p

"Dodge This!" and "I am the Strongest!" combined gives your normal attacks a great boost in damage, and together with Hundred Blades and Flail, your damage output is great.
Power Attack can be switched with any other attack skill, or even with a skill like Deadly Riposte if you put some points from Strength to Tactics.

There we go. So try it out, and have fun with it. And if you happen to find a good combo with a secondary profession, let me know in the comments section.
